See, a typical middle-aged man is too stubborn and aloof for standard narrative conflict to change them. And if they’re divorced on top of that? Good luck. They’re in their own world. No, only supernatural or extreme circumstances can force these Dads out of their comfort zones and towards positive change. And because they’re Dads, these guys go with the flow.
